Clive Field is co-director (with Professor David Voas, now of University College London) of the British Religion in Numbers (BRIN) project at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research, University of Manchester (where Clive is an Honorary Research Fellow). Dr Siobhan McAndrew (now of the University of Bristol) is the project manager.

BRIN is an online religious data resource for Great Britain, covering both historical and contemporary statistics. In addition to providing original data (where copyright permits), there is a searchable database of well over 2,000 religious statistical sources from 1603 and an active news blog (from January 2010). Clive is particularly responsible for the database and blog.

BRIN’s core funding came in the form of a large project grant in 2008-10 from the Religion and Society Programme, a joint initiative of the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council. Since that funding ceased, the project has mostly been sustained by the University of Manchester and by voluntary endeavour. However, since 2014 BRIN has been awarded British Academy Research Project status.
